About Zoe

Zoe offers five years of experience with Instructional Design. She’s created both web-based and instructor-lead learning modules in a variety of formats, including eLearning, (V)ILT, on-the-job resources, and video training. She’s  incorporated microlearning theories into all of these. Her special focus in the field of Instructional Design is scenario-based training and information retention. It is not enough to have a learner simply watch one video or attend an hour-long meeting- an organization must consider how the learner will access this content later on, and in what ways they’ll need to apply it. Retention and application of information is key, and there are many ways to help learners reach their learning and performance goals.

Like many “accidental instructional designers,” Zoe was creating learning material long before she’d ever heard of the position. When she discovered the career (and Cammy Bean’s book!), she fell in love. She first began creating training materials while working as a WordPress consultant for WP Live. Since the job involved customer education, it was important to create resources both for customers as well as coworkers. Job aids and sample websites were the main deliverables in this position.

She then took her first Instructional Design position with WP Live’s parent company, Newfold Digital (classic Endurance International Group). Since then, she’s made her career out of taking apart problems, auditing their causes, and designing not only individual training modules, but company-wide solutions.

Zoe went on to create learning material full-time for NEO Home Loans, a mortgage company that’s redefining the industry. She was promoted to an Instructional Design position with the parent company, Celebrity Home Loans, but was let go for financial reasons.

Today, Zoe works as a freelance Instructional Designer while she searches for the next full-time position. The ability to tinker with performance metrics and improve lives like this is a privilege, and one day Zoe hopes to take her talents into the non-profit sector, enabling large-scale change.
